Students at Nakuru High School were sent home Monday morning following unrest on Sunday night.

The unrest started at around 9 pm and went past midnight before order was restored with the intervention of the police and Nakuru County Director of Education, Victoria Mulili. 

The administration block, classrooms, the school bus and dormitories were destroyed during the incident.

The students’ grievances included the scrapping of mid-morning tea, the replacement of milk tea with black tea for breakfast, the introduction of a card payment system in the canteen instead of cash, and the lack of an upgrade to the entertainment facilities.

The students have now been sent home for a week, after which they will be given further instructions on when to resume.

The ODM party held a prayer service for Raila Odinga ahead of the upcoming African Union Commission (AUC) elections.

Raila is seeking to succeed Chad's Moussa Faki as the chairman of the AUC in the polls to be held on Saturday 15th in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa. He will be up against Djibouti's Mohamoud Youssouf and Richard Randriamandrato of Madagascar. 

Speaking during the service, Raila expressed the belief that he will be successful in the polls and added that he would accept the outcome of the polls, whether or not he comes out as the winner.  

He will need at least 33 votes from the 48 heads of state and governments that are 

 to vote, which is the two-thirds majority required to claim victory, with 

 suggesting 19 heads have already pledged support.

Isiolo youths arrested for heckling the President released

48 youth who had been arrested following a police crackdown in Isiolo on Friday and Saturday were on Monday afternoon 

The youth were arraigned  at the Isiolo Law Courts, and all took a guilty plea for being drunk and disorderly. Senior Resident Magistrate Maureen Odhiambo, who presided over the proceedings, emphasized that the charges were minor, and under section 35 of the (Code of Civil Procedure) CPC, they were discharged with a warning.

The crackdown in Isiolo came after a group heckled President William Ruto in a rally as he was coming to the end of his tour of the North Eastern Region on Friday, 7th February. The president said during the incident that drug dealers had organized the youth to cause disturbance at the function, and on Sunday, Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding told the media that police were targeting drug peddlers, muggers, and illicit alcohol dealers in the county.

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odiambo confirmed the release in a 

, adding that the youth were represented by their team of advocates.

The National Land Commission to pay Ksh. 712 million to over SGR Land

 to pay to Carlise Development Company Ksh. 712 million for land acquired in 2014 for the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway.

The company lodged a complaint in October last year, citing a lack of compensation. In their findings, the Land Acquisition Tribunal found that the NLC failed to serve the firm with the required notices during the acquisition and also did not give compensation for the land.

The tribunal determined that the NLC should pay Ksh. 712.3 million to the firm within the next 45 days as compensation, with the NLC also to pay interest on this amount dated from October 2014 until the amount is settled. An additional Ksh. 18.7 million was also awarded to the firm for general damages.

The NLC on its part acknowledged acquiring the land but argued that the firm failed to present itself for an inquiry where it was expected to provide its bank details and as a result, the funds allocated for the compensation were allocated to other projects.

In its conclusion, the tribunal stated that despite the NLC's claim that the firm did not attend the inquiry, the NLC still failed to prove that it served the firm with the required notices.
