What history have we been told? Is it the truth, or is it convenient for those who have had an agenda to push? Growing up means understanding that the system uses every weapon in its arsenal to achieve its objective.
What is the system you may ask? That is something I’m still defining.
Back to the topic. At this point in time, we as Africans, are in a position I don’t believe we have been in before. We are in an age where sourcing for information has become easier than ever before.
It is with this knowledge that we can question the authenticity of the information that has been widespread before. Previously, information was spread through schools and mainstream media, which is largely controlled by our governments.
With the direction our politics is taking, we can find patterns which have recurred and are in favor of the politicians. This leads to a question, do the political class inherit some sort of history that is not common to all citizens?
Our politicians act as their predecessors acted which keeps the African countries in a cycle of corruption, poverty and debt. Looking into how they present their cases, it is evident that they have weaponized the information that has been spread to us and the older generation.
The internet has its negative effect, but the information sharing is a major plus. This has enabled us to see and call out the politicians for the frauds that they are.
At this age, Africa should not have third world countries. We have immense resources that we can use and trade. The politicians have proven to be the gatekeepers who loot everything at the marketplace. Earning off the backs of their citizens by making deals in their favor regardless of the workers.
What’s more heartbreaking is that they’ve been able to concort schemes that are now taking directly from the citizens in form of taxes for services that are not not delivered.
They are robbing their countries to enrich themselves without a care for the failing systems. The education system is whack, medical care to the dogs, the agricultural sector fucked, our infrastructure non-existent, I could go on and on.
We are straightening the records and investigating what has been happening in our countries. Who is at fault?
The fault lies with the political class. One wrong has never been righted with another. If they found the rot in the system, they should have rooted it out and we could be having a very different conversation. It’s sad really, we had a politician saying they are not as bad as their predecessor, but has not done any better. They were almost complaining, there was not much to loot.
We’ve been having recycled politicians in our government. I maybe speaking of my country, Kenya, but you would find other countries with the same problems.
We are lucky to be educated, informed and have time on our hands. This has brought like minds together and solutions are being found and implemented.
Some of the history taught is useful but more information ought to be added. The politician’s tactics have to be dissected and the sham of politics done away with! Leaders with genuine intentions have to be identified and given the mandate to fulfil a set purpose.
Like companies are run, we require goals that are achievable and enforcable not bulshit manifestos concocted by fraudsters to garner votes. The objectives need to come from the citizens with routine updates on where we are.
The history of politics need to change. It should change as often as it should until we have it working for all. Not with the politicians adding and updating our constitution to suit their purpose.
